Sunset Oktoberfest: October 3’s 7 Bus Detour and Stop Changes

The October 3, 2026 Noriega detour was scheduled beyond festival hours. See the 7’s outbound stop changes and inbound service plan.

The October 3 detour window has passed. As of October 6, SFMTA marks its Sunset Oktoberfest notice as older content retained for the service record. For a trip now, check the 7 Haight/Noriega route page for arrivals and current service information rather than using the expired stop changes below.

For that Saturday, the key distinction in SFMTA’s plan was direction: the outbound 7 toward Ocean Beach would skip its regular Noriega/25th Avenue stop; the inbound 7 toward downtown would detour but miss no stops.

Closure hours extended beyond the party

The Community Fall Festival and Oktoberfest Block Party was scheduled on Noriega Street between 24th and 25th avenues, noon–6 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Both the street closure and the 7’s reroute were scheduled for 8 a.m.–7 p.m., according to SFMTA’s event advisory.

The detour schedule therefore covered morning beach trips before the festival began and departures during the hour after it ended. The usual outbound stop was not scheduled to return to use at the 6 p.m. festival finish.

Stop changes by direction

SFMTA’s detour table specified these changes for the full 8 a.m.–7 p.m. window:

Direction Temporary routing Stop effect
Outbound to Ocean Beach From 23rd Avenue/Noriega, via 23rd Avenue, Ortega Street and 25th Avenue, then back to Noriega Skip Noriega/25th Avenue, stop #15741. Alternatives: 23rd Avenue/Noriega, #13447, and a flag stop at the southeast corner of 25th Avenue/Noriega.
Inbound to downtown From Noriega/25th Avenue, via 25th Avenue, Ortega Street and 22nd Avenue, then back to the regular route No missed stops and no alternate stops listed.

The two directions did not share the same stop restriction. The regular route stop list identifies the inbound Noriega/25th Avenue stop as #15742, distinct from the outbound #15741 affected by the event.

Reaching the party—or continuing to the beach

For arrivals from downtown during the detour, 23rd Avenue/Noriega was the straightforward outbound stop choice: get off there and walk west along Noriega toward the festival block between 24th and 25th avenues. For a beach-bound departure from the party, the advisory offered that same stop or the southeast-corner flag stop at 25th Avenue/Noriega—not the usual outbound #15741.

For a downtown-bound return, the important point was simpler: SFMTA listed no missed inbound stops despite the changed path.

The planned reroute allowed beach passengers to stay aboard; it was a diversion, not a route termination. The 7 serves Ocean Beach at 48th Avenue. Pairing the party with the coast therefore did not require walking all the way from 25th Avenue. If wind or rain made the beach extension unappealing, keeping the outing to Noriega and returning by bus was the lower-effort option.
